Tuning in to the Warning Lights - Part 1

Last night I was in the kitchen finding a snack.

I had been snacking and eating all day and I thought to myself why in the world can I not get enough food today? Anyone relate to this??

I had a good breakfast, ate a good lunch and dinner! And at 7:30pm, I literally had just eaten three different snacks. I was ravenous! It was odd. I thought - “This holiday eating really messed me up!”

As I asked myself- what is going on with you?

I realized I had not drank any water the whole day!

My water jug was still upstairs on my nightstand from last nt- completely Full! I usually get a good 60+oz/day, and it’s now made even easier with this thoughtful Christmas present from Skye! That is, when I don’t leave it upstairs.

My body was so thirsty- but instead of shouting out “Drink Water”, my cravings kept trying to feed my body food to get some hydration! Had I not recognized, I’d soon have a headache, dry lips, maybe not be able to poo the next day - and then things start sliding downhill fast.

What are your Warning lights?!

I believe this happens to us all. I don’t just mean getting enough water (although statistically 80% of us are walking around dehydrated even with our big beautiful cups!)

I’m referring to our body giving us warning signs in full attempt to assist us. We can either take the time to listen to stop impending disease in its tracks OR we can just throw food /alcohol/ our phone/ distractions at it and never look at what the warning is communicating.

Our body’s alert system works similar to a car’s warning lights…

Time to add some fluids, change the oil, put air in our tires, use a different fuel altogether, or just STOP pressing the gas right now! And when we miss the first few warning lights, it requires a complete engine overhaul.

Like a car, if we do not pay attention to our body’s warning lights, our body will alert us with a stronger warning. If we continue to dismiss, things just start to shut down. It’s a built in protection mechanism!

Do we pay attention to the warning lights??

Warning messages may be different for different bodies, depending on what your body is currently dealing with.

Let’s take a look:

  • What symptoms is your body having?

  • For those that see/feel the first warning light that something should change, what do you feel/notice? (What is the symptom?)

  • For those that ignore the first sign- what symptom causes you to notice?

  • And for those that it’s take a red flashing sign- What symptoms have you finally notice?

It’s fair to say: We are all at different levels of health and willingness to pay attention to our body. No good/bad right/ wrong. Yet, it may be time to take a look and pay more attention! Maybe this post IS a warning light!!

Tips:

  • What food/ drinks or otherwise do you crave that could be a warning light? It’s easiest to start with food/ drink cravings, however this could mean other things besides food/drinks. Ie: Stressors, People, habits, basically anything your body is not positively responding to. (This cannot be exercise! lol).

  • What habits do you have that you know are harming you versus helping you? These are warning lights that your health requires support.

Come back later this weekend to learn an easy self check method and an easy way to turn off warning lights and keep you from a bigger alert!
